One Lovely Blog Award

Well. It just so happens that I usually don’t do these award posts. Why? I already have enough material for quite a few posts and everything of course is way behind the schedule. Well, I don’t have a strict one but still there’re lots of things I’d like to have already written about. Such award posts pretty much since the beginning of this blog  have been finding a place in the heap of things that can be procrastinated, but you know the saying – there’s nothing more permanent than temporary… Yep, I’m guilty. Very guilty. But here I am, and here’s an award post (though it’s still after about 2 weeks of being nominated. Procrastination is in my blood…). Why? Somehow Keiko‘s (thanks again – very much) questions looked very intriguing, and I guess I shouldn’t look for a better way to get back to paying more attention to the community. There wouldn’t be much joy in blogging without the community so unused opportunities to strengthen it isn’t the wisest thing. For everybody else who has awarded me in the past, I’m sorry that it’s not your post that (hopefully) got me back on track, and I’m very grateful for every single nomination, but it is as it is.

  1. Share the link of the blogger who has shown love to you by nominating you.
  2. Answer the 11 questions they ask.
  3. Nominate 11 bloggers for the same award in the spirit of sharing love and solidarity with our blogging family.
  4. Ask them 11 questions that you are dying for the answer to!

So yeah. Thanks, Keiko!

  • Do you share your birthday with one of your favourite anime characters? (If you don’t know, use this link to check. It is in Japanese but its easy to navigate. The green box with the numbers are the months so that’s where you start. The days will appear once you choose your month and then you’ll get a list of characters.)
  • Following on from that, do you share your birthday with a character you dislike?

I’m afraid I have to combine these two questions in one because it turns out that anime characters aren’t particularly fond of being born the same day as I did. It’s pretty unlucky but I haven’t watched a single anime that contains characters that I share a birthday with. I probably should watch at least Haikyuu at some point to rectify that. Oh well, it happens. At least I have Hitchcock and Fidel Castro… Yeah…

  • If you could be the protagonist of an anime, what type of protagonist would you be and what would you call yourself?

Probably I’d be a very boring character. Even slice of life shows usually rely on colorful characters and someone taken from the real life would probably seem extremely dull. I see myself as a very normal person (Hm, talk about Mikiya from Kara no Kyoukai), though not as keen on taking risks. Playing it safe isn’t that exciting so unless I could be useful in the brain department, hardly anyone would be excited about such an anime. I’d call myself Protag-kun. Any more suitable name should be decided by the production committee.

  • If you were a pirate, what would you be called?

I’m a rather pacifistic guy so chances of me being a pirate are close to zero. Anyway, if that happened, I wouldn’t expect anything too fancy or witty – Four Eyes (for obvious reasons) would probably be the best I could get.

  • You have been transported to the times of King Arthur. Who would you be?

Everyone would probably think about being a knight or a princess but chances for that are pretty small, aren’t they? In all likelihood I’d be a filthy peasant who would die because of some epidemic or famine in his 40s at best. If I was allowed to choose, I guess then I’d think about something science-y. At those times probably the closest you could get to be a wise dude was becoming a monk, so that’s that. I rather enjoy studying natural sciences now so why choose differently?

  • Following on from that question, what would your choice of weapon and horse be called?

I said I wasn’t the biggest fan of conflicts, especially armed ones, so I’d prefer not to use any weapons. But yeah, I can’t leave the answer at that, can I? Then I think I’d go ranged. A bow is as fine a weapon as anything else. I’d call it “Bow”. About horses, my country has a tradition of naming horses by their coat color, so I think there’s no need to experiment. In English “Chestnut” or something similar would be fine. Unless in a moment of comic weakness I’d choose “Brownie”.

  • If you were caught outside in a snowstorm, what would you do?

Get home as soon as possible, obviously. Other than that, try to find some shelter as soon as possible ans get warm. I don’t expect to get lost in a snowstorm any time soon so generally I have no idea.

  • What one thing are you proud to own?

When I think about that, I can’t say there’s a single item that belongs only to me I treasure above everything else. Well, I could say my meager anime, manga and light novel collection (especially Kara no Kyoukai box set) is something but that’d be an overestimation. Hm, maybe my uni diploma? Though I believe that anyone that puts enough work (and money, if need be) can achieve that in one way or another. Well, there’s a diploma for winning a Latin language contest when I was in my last year at school. But that also barely counts since Latin is taught in only a few schools in my country so there were like 20 or so participants. no big deal.

  • What’s the weirdest song you’ve ever heard?

Speaking about normal songs, What does the Fox say was pretty weird. Something like that isn’t a normal song, so I guess I’d give the first place to this one.

  • Have you ever started watching/reading something and forced yourself to finish it despite it being terrible? If so, what was it?

Well, I’m a completionist, and that’s everything there’s to say. No matter how bad a story is, I still want to know how it ends. Probably the worst are mediocre stories that bore you to death. Sorry, fans, but out of recent ones I have to name Ballroom e youkoso, Kino no Tabi sequel and Ito Junji: Collection.

  • What anime are you planning to watch from the spring season?

Hm, I’m not sure yet. Steins;Gate and SAO may be interesting but might as well not be. LotGH and Golden Kamuy seem to have pretty great source material, but that barely says anything about the quality of the anime. Piano no Mori and that Bones show also are on my radar, but overall I just don’t know yet for sure.

Yeah, the nominations. Anyone who reads this deserves it, so you can do it with a free pass any time you want. Especially since there’re too many lovely blogs. But if  naming someone directly is necessary and appropriate…

And the questions (though the first one doesn’t even have a question mark. Sorry).

  • Share the funniest gif you’ve ever encountered.
  • Many believe that live action adaptations of anime are terrible (more times than not). What about the inverse thing – what live action film(s) do you you think could be remade into a decent anime?
  • What’s the oldest anime you watched and liked? What was the appeal of it?
  • What’s the longest anime series you completed? How did the series hold your attention?
  • Who is the second best girl? Why?
  • What is the weirdest thing people searched to end up finding your blog?
  • What is your secret talent?
  • Do you play any musical instrument? If not, would you like to try anything?
  • What kind of music do you usually listen to? What are you favorite artists?
  • What is your favorite YouTuber and why?
  • What’s your biggest fear?

So yeah, thanks for stopping by! Have a great day!

Thank you for taking your time to answer my questions! 😊
I really enjoyed reading your answers.
Awh it’s a shame you didn’t know any of the characters you share your birthday with 😦 And Haikyuu’s a pretty good anime to watch! 🙂
Those songs were definitely really weird! 😂😂

  2. Oh wow – this was a really fun read!
Great questions deserve great answers and you lived up to it. I love how reasonable you are about your role in arthurian times.
    That’s a great gif too.

  4. Turns out I share a birthday with Eraser Head (My Hero Academia). Since I’m also often a tired, cynical old man… that probably fits.

As far as an anime protagonist goes, I’d be a side character I fear. A brain and neither vibrant nor physically active, but I’m a very loyal friend.

    • At least you found someone you could recognize.
Well, more times than not side characters can be even more interesting than protagonists. Loyalty would make you fit perfectly in any anime scenario and likely become fan favorite.

  5. A horse named Brownie would be so cute! Thank you for the nomination. Not sure when/if I’ll get to it, but I’ll try!
